MHERA™ is a practical framework that allows Professionals to evaluate the emotional wellbeing of an individual animal of any species, considering their mental lives and the role it plays in their behaviour. The framework can be used on mammals, birds, reptiles and (as more information becomes available from scientific research) in an adapted form for amphibians and fish. MHERA™ is applied in companion and captive wildlife care to manage and assess wellbeing.

With MHERA™ you can…

MEASURE
Measure the efficacy of enrichment or behaviour modification programs. Is it meeting the animal’s specific need or is it counterproductive because of their bias? MHERA™ shows you how the animal experiences enrichment etc, which means you can be more specific in what you implement.

IDENTIFY
Identify why certain behaviours are occurring, why they continue to happen despite attempts to change them and hone in on what each individual animal needs, based on their physical and mental requirements.

DEVELOP
Develop programs that help to address ‘problem’ behaviours (a better description would be emotional conflict – as that is often the driving force behind how animals behave.)
